Schiele, Egon
(12 jun. 1890, Tulln, Austria–31 oct. 1918, Viena).

Pintor, dibujante y grabador austríaco. Fue influenciado fuertemente por el movimiento Jugendstil, y la linealidad y la sutileza de su obra, se debe en gran medida a la elegancia decorativa de Gustav Klimt. Aun así, siempre dio realce a la expresión, por sobre la decoración, acentuando el poder emotivo de la línea, con ardorosa intensidad. Sus imágenes cándidas, agitadas y eróticas –con frecuencia retratos de mujeres–, causaron sensación, aunque en 1912 fue encarcelado durante un breve tiempo, acusado de indecencia. Sus paisajes exhiben la misma cualidad febril en el color y la línea. En 1918, se le reservó una sala especial en una exhibición vienesa, justo antes de que muriera a causa de la epidemia de influenza de ese año. Desde entonces, ha sido reconocido como uno de los grandes artistas del expresionismo.
